Downstairs Cafe in Quarry Bay is a typical cha chaan teng serving up familiar Hong Kong-style comfort food that fits into the daily rhythms of local life. Located on King's Road, this spot draws a steady flow of customers from morning through evening, especially those seeking straightforward, no-frills meals like ham omelettes with Danish toast or classic luncheon meat and egg sandwiches.

The interior is modest and functional, where sharing tables during busy periods is common, reflecting a bustling neighborhood vibe rather than a quiet café retreat. It caters well to those who want a quick, hearty breakfast or lunch without pretense. The atmosphere can feel lively and communal, with waitstaff who sometimes bring an unexpected touch of cheer, adding personality to the experience.

Beyond the morning staples, Downstairs Cafe offers dishes like thick-cut pork chop rice with double eggs and spicy shredded chicken rice noodles in soup, which resonate with locals craving familiar, home-style flavors. The evening menu shifts toward soup noodles and special rice dishes, including options featuring ingredients like baby oysters and pig maw, showcasing a genuine local palate.

Service here leans toward practical and friendly, with attentive staff who don’t mind stepping in to help if a spill happens or if you need a fresh cup of milk tea. This kind of casual care makes the place feel approachable, especially for solo diners or neighborhood regulars.

If you’re after a laid-back spot to grab a mid-morning coffee or a simple, straightforward Hong Kong café meal without fuss, Downstairs Cafe fits the bill. Best times to visit are likely outside the peak rush hours if you prefer a seat to yourself, but the communal table setting can also be part of the authentic local café experience. It’s a place that serves the everyday needs of Quarry Bay residents and workers, offering an unpretentious taste of Hong Kong’s cha chaan teng culture.

Comfort food. Taste is average. You might have to share table with others during busy hours.

Came here for afternoon tea set. Food was ok but I love how the waiter that served me was singing when he served my order. He was the vibe! I hope he never change.

I had such a heartwarming experience here. I spilled the entire cup of milk tea by accident and the staffs here immediately came to help me out. It was entirely my mistake but they were very caring and easygoing about it. They ensured I had enough tissues and wet wipes to wipe my clothes and offered me a new seat and a new cup of milk tea. Very kind of them. Their food was great too! Definitely coming back again.

Authentic HK-cafe-food. The chicken leg is tasty with the so called "Swiss Source". The "French Toss" is soft but crispy on the surface, after being fried, with loads of peanut butter. The porkchop bun is also juicy.
